Free*style's 4th anniversary party, 4.44.444 ends tonight at midnight! You might want to swing by if you haven't, it's a big skybox full of awesome (and pictures of our pets and some of our escapades) from all sorts of different people (those Free*Style girls got half the grid involved, I think), all new and exclusive for this event- some of it will be available later, but some of it won't, and I have noooo idea what!

Jessica Fletcher loves Free*Style. So do cats in shark masks.

The event is being held on Lloyd, in a skybox up above the sim- Free*Style also maintains a year round room in the motel on the ground, full of goodies.

Pig Sale!

There's a sale at Pig. Everything is 50L. Fatpacks are all discounted to random numbers. I don't know when the sale is going to end (I don't think ANYONE knows when the sale is going to end, including our fair Apatia), so you might wanna get your ass thataways soon. Pig is great for things to clothe your paper doll girlie and your manvatar, good and beautiful hand drawn staples. And underwear.

Lloyd, triumphant

Lloyd's been open during construction (which is still going on, a lot!), but a few things have opened up!

Pig is open again on Lloyd, in the new iglesia de tocino. There's also a flickr group for Pig and assorted relatedness, finally!

Mr. Tentacle is also finally back, in a giant octopus. You can see Herman Melville in the background there, the home of TOSL- which has stayed open and ready the whole time (and I hear there's new stuff as of yesterday!)

fashionably dead is alive and well on Lloyd- especially since Tableau is down for remodelling! Skins are on the upper floor. As is the cat.

fox in the snow, with its art t-shirts, is still in the little cottage, you can see the little ~silentsparrow~ birdhouse behind it.

The Motel has been rebuilt- one floor this time, with a kidney bean shaped pool- the squid floaty still loves to hold you. The back three rooms are taken up by Free*Style, though the motel recently was moved so things had to be sent back, and most of them haven't put their stuff back out yet!

Also in the Motel is Miss Shippe's Studio. Inside you can find facepainting warpaints to adorn your noggin.

The only SMERSH currently in existence is in another motel room. Life is incomplete without a frickin laser shark.

High above Lloyd is Antebellum, safe from the chaos of de/construction, where you can find a great selection of facial hair for your mustache wearing desires.

And, of course, the Schadenfreude Elephant is still standing in his corner of Lloyd, staring out at the sea. (Mostly) unmolested by the doings around him.

(All pictures are unedited but for cropping, taken in a viewer with shadows and depth of field. After 4 months of working on a busted computer, I finally have new hotness that can handle all this, so I've been playing around with it. Still buggy a bit...but new computer doesn't even have Photoshop yet, as my install disks are not where I am.)

The destruction of the Starlust Motel

Last night, there was a bit of demolition that went on.

We destroyed the Motel. With a host of people inside it at the time (including me. But, we had a nurse on duty to take care of any injuries!).

As you've no doubt noticed, there are great changes afoot in Starlustland. The sims have been reduced, so we can focus all of our energies on Lloyd, and make nulloyd the best Lloyd he can be. As part of the changes, there will be a new motel. And for that, the old motel must die!

And what better way to destroy the motel than by throwing a party and then watching it fall down on top of us. It bounced, a lot, for almost an hour. Apatia, Barb, Rach, and I were thrown onto Gaylord more than once. (And whoever else was sitting on the desk with us....I admit I wasn't paying much attention to that as I was in charge of the 'splodey. And by "in charge" I mean "gleefully reveling in the destruction.")

You can see lots more pictures of the destruction in the Starlust flickr pool- if you have any Starlusty pictures, I urge you to add them there too! Garbage got a great video of the destruction as well! And there's also an album in front of the motel with a few more pictures!

You can still survey the damage, we're putting off cleaning up this mess!

Lloyd will be staying open during de/construction. And there just miiiiight be some more explosions in our future.

The Starlust's Last (One Night) Stand

Ok, you know, that's a total lie, right? We're still going to be sluts and have more one night stands. We can't help it, it's that kind of motel. Come join us at the lobby, there's enough loving (and vodka) to go around.

What it is though, is a weekend bash of awkward making out (Melatonin Hax and Apatia Hammerer are manning the kissing booths this moment), exclusives with portions going to the Starlust slush fund (we don't actually spend it on hookers and blow....we wish we could, but dammit, do you know how expensive tier is? It's like LL has no respect for hookers and blow), and ANARCHY. I hear there may be fireworks on Horst tonight. And griefing. Officially sanctioned griefing. I hear Stein's bringing party favours.

The Starlust is NOT going to be gone. But it is going to change. Floyd has already passed into the hands of Putrid Gloom (and her filthy assistant Horrid Twine) and will be something new. Horst, Harold, and Gaylord are being sold off, *sniff*. Lloyd is staying Starlusty. There are actually a lot of really good and positive reasons for this, but it is a big change. But I need to actually post this this weekend and not be the slackingest blogger ever as usual, so maybe I'll ramble on about it more later.

But! If you want to say goodbye to the sims as they are now, you might want to act fast. Horst's already been gutted a bit (actually Horst's already been sold, technically, but LL is also slower than molasses on following through and finishing that).

Monochrome Autumn

I dunno about you, but it's not even October yet and already I'm kinda sick of orange. It's not that I don't like orange -- I do. I'm just not ready for the onslaught of seasonal orange that hits the grid with a vengeance at the end of every summer. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I'll be into it soon... just not yet.

I am definitely ready for fall, though, and luckily there is plenty available in Harold for temporary colorphobes like myself. Two monochrome looks for autumn -- all items credited below are available from stores in Harold (most of them are from Anchor City/Area 408).

The sweater is a new (and fantastic) item from Reek called the Papercut Cardigan. Shirt is the Chequered Past Punky Tee from Warhead. The amazingly affordable boots (50L for the fatpack) are from Duh! and the hair is a new item from Clawtooth called French Connection (created for the Hair Fair but now available in CBC stores).

Reek's Papercut Cardigan again -- it comes with several options for the hood and cuffs. It's also unisex and includes a wider waist attachment for curvier avatars. Peeking out from underneath is Miel's AM Tulip Top. Nina Capri pants by MichaMi near the edge of Anchor City/Area 408.

Whether you're adamantly already wearing seasonal hues or avoiding orange until October truly kicks in, head over to Harold and explore some of the fine fall offerings.

Designers United Comes to Starlustland!

The fourth Designers United event is being held on Floyd and runs until September 15th (after which, good old Floyd will be getting a bit of a makeover). Narcissus is the theme for this event, which features creations by some of the finest designers in SL (including many Starlustians). Some have interpreted the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo (short version: boy falls in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and wastes away staring at himself, girl pines for vain boy until only her voice remains). Others have explored the symbolism of the daffodil narcissus flower itself or simply creatively vamped using the bloom. Floyd has been transformed into a wonderland of grass, white flowers, dirt paths, mirror-like water... and lots and lots of things to buy.

There is a little bit of everything available at this event -- skins, hair, clothing, poses, accessories and home stuff. No surprise, the vast majority is for the ladies, but creative guys will find things they can work with. Everything looks fantastic -- the theme revolves around beauty, after all, and that has really come through with this DU round. Here are a few of my favorite finds.

The Panty Raid is Ending!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end of the Panty Raid. Tonight (and by that I mean right about NOW) we shall be saddling up and the clam posse will be scouring the sims for clams to send him. You are free to join us and crack them open and suck their juicy insides before we hit the Return button. We're going to meet at the lobby.

So I went exploring in Eugene and what did I find? A puppydog avatar at Junk Ruckus for practically pennies! I'm a goofball, how could I resist?

Girl Mako also found several things in Eugene -- sunglasses from Epoque, inexpensive tees from Junk Ruckus and Decollage... The trick in Eugene is to really explore and find the hidden corners. There are deals to be had on rooftops and through slightly open doors.

In other news, the 3rd Annual Starlust Panty Raid starts very soon! In honor of this hilarious and fun event, I climbed the Floyd mountain in my drawers and took some pics. Get ready to hunt for some skivvies!

Hello again, Starlusters -- it's been way too long! To be honest, I'm a bit out of practice... and it's been a crazy spring... but blog we all must, so onward! I'm getting my groove back with this little post that gives a nod to Schadenfreude. If you're a 50L Friday fan, you know that Schadenfreude's usual offering involves the Deep V Vest. Exploring Elliott

I was rambling around Elliott earlier and turned around to find myself staring at this cool vista -- the moody haze of neutrals broken by the startling red of the Sea Hole octopus (a mural which is available for sale).

Inspired, I morphed into Girl Mako (she comes in handy for these types of occasions) and turned her into Octo Girl using items purchased on Elliott. The Octo dress is from the Sea Hole, the Cosmic Johanna scaly skin is one of MiaSnow's and the Kraken helmet is from Hat Mechanic:

Girl Mako kept wandering and eventually snapped out of octo mode. Elliott is such a rich atmospheric sim -- the dim water, the ramshackle carnival, the narrow alleys, the string lights through the haze... it's great just to explore and find places you might have missed on previous visits. Thimbles Returns in a New Location

Thimbles, a collaborative effort between Starlusty Ladies Apatia Hammerer and Melatonin Hax, mysteriously disappeared from Floyd several months ago but has resurfaced (well, sort of) in Gaylord. The newly reopened Thimbles mainstore is now comfortably located in an underground bunker just below the main piggy square. It's currently unmarked, but you'll run into it if you wander through open doorways or happen to be prowling the sewers. Farewell to Penny Dreadful Arcade

Doors closing and windows opening in Starlust today. As you may have heard, Izzy Bereznyak's Penny Dreadful Arcade (pda) is permanently closing up shop at midnight -- that's right, midnight SLT today, Sunday, March 7th.

I'm really sorry to see the place go -- I use Izzy's poses almost exclusively for photos and blogging. And I really like the (pda) build itself -- I discovered it creeping around in the Harold river one day and swam in through the drainpipe in the back. It's a great little shop -- if you've never been inside, be sure to check it out before it disappears.

OH it'll be a hoot!! All you have to do is go to the motel lobby at Lloyd (here) and grab a super awesome HUD. Click that sucker, attach it and then go about trying to follow the hints to find the 14 pieces of a heart that are hidden around the Starlust sims!! It's not easy but it's also not really super hard either - especially considering that there's the I <3 The Starlust update group for you to receive support and heckling from on your hunt journey! After you've found all 14 pieces the HUD works like a magic super awesome key that unlocks all the gift boxes the wonderful Starlust vendors have put out in their shops for you!!

Greetings from the snowy land of Horst. I was wandering around and ended up raiding the FreeStyle trailers. There are tons of freebies to be had and it's a great place to hit with a new avatar since shapes and skins are some of the most readily available items. I created this little av out of various products from Horst vendors, including the FreeStyle things.

That's the Tres Blah unicorn behind me, of course -- a great Starlust landmark! What I'm wearing is sort of half-assedly unicorn themed. Starlust knows all about unicorns, after all, and lots of unicorn-ish freebies are available in the motel in Lloyd, but I kept it light. And yes, I'm standing on a giant piece of delicious sushi.

A Small Adventure in Floyd

Greetings from the beautiful mountainside of Floyd! This area, with the shops shaped like giant flowers and plants (bonus: some are dangerous varieties), was one of the first parts of Starlust I ever wandered into, so I have a soft spot for the shops in the shadow of the supersized Starlustland sign.

I was excited to discover a Picnic outpost here on the mountain -- that's new since my last visit. Several pieces of Picnic's signature furniture are available in this location, as well as a few items of clothing. I took a break from mountain climbing and did some light reading on the upper level of the little shop.

Further exploration led to the discovery of more fun stuff. A sampling of some of the things I found from these fine Floydian vendors:

Hello Starlust! Mako and Rach here -- we are excited to be new members of the Starlust blogging crew. We will be wandering through the lands of Starlust, showcasing what we find.

VPoses and Devo

I meant to post this...a bit ago, but I suck and kept getting distracted. As it is, the panty hunt officially ended last night...but you might get lucky and still be able to find some. After last year's hunt, we were still finding clams for months.

And by "months" I mean "I saw a clam from last year's hunt out in this year's".

Our community manager got a cheat sheet from everyone (in theory), so maybe, just maybe, they will have been returned if people haven't picked theirs up...but I haven't logged in today so I don't know if she's done that yet!

But anyway. Now that I've apologized for not wearing pants...again...and possibly taunting you with things you can't have.

Nestled up in the foothills behind Thimbles is a little building that houses VPoses. It's got some glass walls as well, so there are some great views from it.

I don't know about you, but I'm always on the lookout for more good pose shops, and VPoses has a lot of nice "model" poses (including some with great attitude), as well as fun poses and group sets for snapshots, and a great sofa with a number of poses (especially tuned for couples. Awwwwww).

Devo is located at the foot of Mount Lolita, down the stairs from VPoses, and is full of all sorts of scripted wild and wackiness. The piano I'm posing on here actually plays when you touch or stand on it, and you can record songs to play back as well.

Yes, I do have no legs (and put on a more skin tone skin as the legless attachment isn't really meant for someone as blindingly white as I usually am! Regardless, it is still made of awesome, and I am willing to get a tan for it), courtesy of a thresher accident, and Devo. The picture behind me is something I halfassedly drew- you can play with it with your whole ass and draw pretty pictures on it too.

VPoses and Devo are located in scenic Floyd, below and to the side of the giant flowers scattered across Mount Lolita.

The hunt begins Friday, August 14th! Start in any of the sims of Starlustland and look for the golden clamshells! With hundreds upon hundreds to be found, your underwear drawer won't be looking so sad and empty much longer!

Split Pea

Split Pea is the brainchild of Melatonin Hax, she who is one half of Thimbles, the high muckity muck in charge of the Area 408 half of Harold, and the new sim Elliott. A little over a year ago, she branched off from Thimbles into millinery- creating fantastical creations, mostly to be worn upon the head, in room 13 of the motel when it moved to Lloyd.

Eventually this little side project grew beyond the bounds of just a motel room, and moved into, of course, giant peas. Those peas inhabit the space in Lloyd that had been devoted to Thimbles, before the move to the giant thimbles in Floyd, keeping that plot in the family, as it were.

Quite a few head adornments (there are hats- but there are also feathers and vines and bows and glasses and birds) in Split Pea are created to go with things made by other designers- there are hats to go with dresses by Heartattack&Vine, feathers and bows to go with Clawtooth by Clawtooth hair.

Split Pea is located in the southwest corner of Lloyd, a stone's throw from the motel and next to ZsaZsa's bra on Horst.

War? (We grief our sims, so you don't have to)

On the evening of July 14th, the evil forces of Vintage McMillan (of Epoque and Eugene) and her army of giant dolls descended upon the Starlust, in her bid to conquer the rest of the land of greater Starlustland. It started high above the skies of Floyd, as a foreboding airship cruised around, dropping huge dolls in her declaration of war.

We scrambled to rally the troops in response, and were aided in our defense by mushroom throwers, giant chickens, and the fearless crotch swan infantry. And then, the battle was on! Vintage manned the huge Godzilla-like doll, with its laser eyes, setting fire to the grounds of the motel, as giant chickens flew into the face of danger trying to fend off the menace.

Eventually the brave cock and fungus forces were victorious, defeating Vintage's evil...for now.

I knew it was a mistake to let Eugene in!

Show us your best photos in the Starlust sims and you can win BIG!

The day has finally arrived! The first ever Starlust Flickr photo competition has begun, and will run through July 24th! Take your best photos in any/several/all of the seven active Starlust sims, and you can win incredible prizes (literally THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of Linden worth of merchandise from our vendors in every sim!). Also, everyone who participates will receive a gift pack just for entering!

Prizes:

Seven lucky winners will receive gift bags FILLED with exclusive prizes and gift cards from Starlust vendors!

Winning submissions will be chosen by a select panel of judges and displayed indefinitely on billboards throughout the Starlust sims!

Contest Rules:

All photographs must be taken within the Starlust sims! (Floyd, Lloyd, Herman Melville, Horst, Harold, Eugene, & Bill).

Photo Dimensions: (recommended but not required) 1024x512 (length 2x width!)

You must be wearing or showcasing items (at least 3!) purchased in the sim in which your picture is taken.

You may submit up to three photos per sim. Currently there are 7 active sims-- two are new (Eugene and Bill) -- so you can have a maximum of 21 photo submissions!

These photos must be posted to the official Starlust Flickr page!

All contest submissions must be named: "CONTEST - Your Name - Sim". So for example, if I posted a picture taken in Harold, my entry would be titled "CONTEST - Averie Larnia - Harold"

Please also include relevant tags: i.e. sim the photo is representing, designer names, etc.

In the description of your photo, please include credits for the products you are wearing/displaying. i.e. store name and item names.

Post processing is not required but encouraged!

Starlust Residentials

Did you know the Starlust has a few residential spots?

(The Emerald viewer rocks in a multitude of ways, including the temp upload feature and the ability to set perms of things in the contents of objects en masse, and it also actually lets me turn on Atmospheric Shaders! I have to use them very sparingly and only for photos...but look! Actual pretty water!)

Nestled in the mountains above Area 408, there are a select few unique buildings for residences, overseen by our lovely Melatonin Hax. It's a pretty fantastic view from up there, looking over all of Starlustland (if you can up your draw distance! I keep mine super low except for photos, so I'm always even more amazed when I can see things).

We do request that visitors to Starlustland be respectful to those who choose to keep homes here, however we have been blessed with never having any problems to speak with so far, because, let's face it, the people who hang out at the Starlust are awesome.

Royal Blue

Royal Blue just recently underwent a remodeling. It has kept a lot of the same themes and charm of the previous build, but evolved into more of a proper "building"- this time, for instance, there's actually a roof! The previous incarnation to that was the gingerbread house in Floyd, and it's been an interesting progression in theme to watch, as certain elements have become more prevalent.

(I'm sorry, I have to apologize here for a moment- the new ~silentsparrow~ tattoos have made it hard for me to actually wear clothing. However, as I was having a hard time deciding upon a shirt that would accentuate this skirt to its full potential anyway...so it worked out just fine! I love the floral motif on this one playing into the roses.)

As you might be able to spy in the background, there's a new addition to Horst. All that glitter has been gathering high above the sims...and it made a giant unicorn. I hear eventually Tres Blah shall be setting up shop in his innards!

It's a very chic build, but at the same time, there's a lot just a bit strange and wonderful about it. When you walk inside, you find that there are two distinct styles of architecture at war- on the one side you have the very fancy slick white walls with accents, clean and stark, like the interior of high end Beverly Hills boutique, or a nice department store like Saks, when it still actually was nice (it's even more that prefect ideal of what these things should be, what they try to be, than even the reality achieved)- and on the other it's an explosion of flowers and plants and grasses planted in a checkerboard pattern (even up onto the walls), as if Wonderland has come to take over.

The Garden

We don't really have a name for the area in the middle of Floyd, the foothills of Mount Lolita covered in giant plants. I call it the garden (which occasionally gets "wait, where?" in response).

Originally there were 13 flowers planted on the slopes of Lolita, brought into being by Apatia Hammerer, Melatonin Hax, and myself; as each of us created some of the flowers until we hit our desired number- they almost built themselves, unlike most builds where I sit there and worry and plan and try to figure out how to work (I obsess. It's a character flaw). Well, two of mine aren't really flowers, per se, but carnivorous plants, as I have a bit of a soft spot for them (though, sadly, not the climate to grow them, as my venus flytraps and my pitcher plants have never lasted more than a season, regardless of the terrariums I try to set up for them). I'll let you in on a secret- the pitcher plant is my favourite. It's also the one with the most ridiculous traffic flow, having to climb up and down to get into it!

I shall momentarily single out one store in particular- usually I try to avoid much of that in the broad tours when covering a larger area, however, Aisuru Rieko of Beloved Designs, not only chose the pitcher plant of the ridiculous way of getting in and out, she also helped out when the garden was replanted- first providing the adorable temporary booths of bowling pins and balls, as well as adding a few of her own creations for buildings when the garden expanded.

When the garden was originally planted, the Starlustland sign wasn't around- it only ended up coming into being one day I was working on Horst, before any of it was open to the public. I think, for some reason, it was the bra that brought it about (maybe because of some cognitive leap that involved Frederick's of Hollywood as one of the steps? I don't know, I just know that it seemed fitting and wanted to see it happen). When the mountain was (finally- if you visited Horst in the interim, you know that it sat there near the bra for a while, though it was always planned to move to Lolita once we terraformed for it) carved out to create a place for the sign, the garden expanded beyond the original 13 to include mushrooms, a potted onion, crate, watering can, wheelbarrow, and the barn. I find it a bit more fun to walk around in now, too, with little pathways hanging precariously off the edge.

Also, yes, I overuse cute and adorable and fun, but, well, they all are, so....)

Smersh and The Golden Oriole

I'm sorry I've been a slacker of a tour guide- I was distracted by getting through the oxfords, finally. Sorry, you haven't gotten rid of me yet!

The two places I would like to show you today are Smersh and The Golden Oriole. Both have impact in Starlustland beyond just their shops- flopsie McArdle of Smersh has contributed a number of little touches all over the sims, from hot dog themed items (mmmmm) to paths to trees to picnic tables and beyond, when flopsie hasn't been off building sims for companies, she's been puttering around the 'Lust here and there. And, of course, the train station on Horst that houses VintageWear, one of her magnificent prefabs.

I've never met the person (or people?) behind the Golden Oriole myself, but they are directly responsible for the absolutely fantastic treehouse that perches high atop Mount Lolita on Floyd, that serves as the communal I <3 the Starlust clubhouse. We used to have a castle there, but gave them freedom to do whatever they thought was good, and it blew away any expectations we had!

Both places have a lot in common- aside from being right next to each other, they also both do prefabs and gadgets and furniture, and they do it fantastically. Smersh is more modern retro and grunge, the home of the Laser Shark, a hotbed of revolutionary activity, and the place you can get the best damn corndog in Second Life. You can also ponder the existentialist emptiness of being as you wage slave your life away selling Flopdogs. The Golden Oriole excels at steampunk and Victorian delights: beautiful buildings, exquisite weaponry, gorgeously detailed furniture for the upscale abode, and what is certainly the best pith helmet in Second Life I have ever seen.

After a tandem marriage proposal by Apatia and Melatonin, which lead them to asking me to blog for the Starlust Motel...here I am!! Hi, my name is Hallie Galli and I have been wandering around the Starlust for about a year. If I could move into one of the motel rooms, I totally would. That's what happens when you have a shopping addiction and you find somewhere where every store imaginable is all in one place.

I wanted to do my first post as something "blogworthy" but I found myself getting all sappy/emotional/cheesy. The fact is...I LOVE THIS PLACE! It feels like one big dysfunctional family with the perfect blend of people who love to create amazing things and people who wait with baited breath for notices of new releases. It's just a great group of individuals who want to have fun, shop and be yourself (even if you have a unicorn/David Bowie/bacon/Bea Arthur/all of the above fetish). It's my second home and I couldn’t be more honored than to be asked to be a part of it

For my first blog, I had this urge to attach as much to me as possible from each area of the Starlust to showcase the amazing finds here. However, I began to realize that I didn't have enough attachment points and didn't want to crash the sim. So, I had to grab some friends to help me out. And where is a better place for a photo shoot than right...

Catty Campground

The part of Harold you enter from Horst, the other half of Stein's section to Dogtown, is Catty Campground. Stein created this fabulous bright tents that await your desire to camp out under the stars, sitting around the campfires telling scary stories (I set up random poses in a number of the rocks surrounding the fires, because I'm obsessed with sit trapping. It's a sickness).

There is, of course, also a public shower, so while you're roughing it, at least you have some of the amenities. Filth is just _so_ unfashionable, you know. Be careful you don't slip at the entrance, there's a bit of a puddle that hasn't been cleaned up yet.

The gravel roads through the campground lead to Dogtown and to Area 408, with tents set back a bit from the road, but still within easy walking distance. After all, you wouldn't want to be _too_ inconvenienced while camping.

VintageWear

VintageWear has its mainstore on Horst (this is soon to change- as there's a new hidden extra son in the Starlust family just arrived), in the train station built by flopsie j McArdle. flopsie has left her mark on Starlustland- aside from her brilliant SMERSH duck, she's contributed a number of details around the sims (including the wonderful workhorse paths that we've done all sorts of things to....and the giant hotdog in front of the motel). She has more patience with realism than I do, as I have a tendency to get bored and wander off- she adds all sorts of crazy finishing touches.

Vintage McMillan creates all sorts of amazing eyewear, including over the top styles inspired by Elton John and Lady Gaga, and also makes jewelry, and hair. The hair section has grown too large for the train station, and you'll have to take a seat on the teleporter to take a visit to the hair shop.

If you drunkenly follow the girls at the boardwalk on Baconlust Beach around a corner, you'll also find her shoes- the Amazing Hooker Walkers, available in a selection of colours. ~~Molest~~ Touch any girl to find out her story- the brilliant stories are written by Stein and Apatia.

Halflust Harbor

Halflust Harbor is on the inland shore of Floyd, and might give one the tiniest inkling into Floyd's penchant for sailors. (There's a lot you can probably infer about Floyd's personality if you look around the sim- and you'd be right.)

Halflust is a lovely place to sit and ~~pick up sailors~~ enjoy a nice day by the water, exploring the sunken depths of the Big Booty Big Money ship (we're not going to talk about how drunk I was when I sailed that in there), browsing the wares of the less soggy shops, and whiling away the time fishing (like most of the watery areas in Starlustland, there is 7Seas fishing at the Harbor, including special Starlust exclusive catches).

The harbor serves as the mainstore for a few places, including Twosome, Sisters, the Sock Shop, and Big Booty Big Money. There's also a fortune teller at the entrance to the center of Floyd, where you can try your luck with a friend to win fabulous prizes.

And after an exhausting day running around, there are comfy benches where you can take a nap.

Timberry and Fashionably Dead

I don't really have any interesting stories to tell you about Timberry- while Timberry has been part of the 'Lust since Neverdie, it arrived fully formed in the stage, and I've never met the avatar behind it (because I'm a hermit).

I do recall the first time I saw it though- it wasn't even quite open yet, in Cherry Buttons, and I was enchanted by the stage, and wanted so dearly to be sitting in the front row watch puppets dance across it acting out some parody of life. Timberry carries imaginative clothing, hair, and accessories, as one might guess upon seeing the stage.

On the other hand, I have more stories than space to tell you about the Fashionably Dead dinosaur. It was originally built to go on the opposite end of the motel, at Neverdie, once I finally buckled down to face it. Funnily enough, I'd been thinking about how to build a giant concrete dinosaur building before Starlustland was a twinkle in our eyes, as I'd dreamed of having one in the Wastelands, but the interior/collision/walkability on that dream dinosaur was nightmarish to consider (it was a more accurate recreation of Dinny, a lot of the details of which don't translate so well to SL for a multitude of reasons- as well as being less fitting for Fashionably Dead in general). For this one, I'd been stymied at just how to approach it- sculpts versus regular prims, working within the very limited selection of megas, how to texture it...it was all an uphill battle. I quite love how it finally came out, with his goofy eyes watching over Starlustland.

Toast Bard is to blame for a great many things- one of those being the Oui Coupes coming to the Starlust, she set out a pair of them in Neverdie. And I scrunched myself in them, and made it possible to drive up to the second floor of the motel (and parked next to the laundry), as well as invisibly ramping the pool, and otherwise making the majority of Neverdie drivable in some manner. And trying to drive on to that dinosaur's head- which I have managed, but it's soooo not easy. There are a few more pitfalls in Starlustland currently (quicksand!), but I still build with half a mind towards "how will a car work in this environment", and while I can't build everything to be drivable, I can at least build more things to not cause too much getting stuck. Also, if you drive up the mountain and bank just right, you can get up onto the roof of the motel.

Toast Bard was also the first person to build an interior to one of my builds that made my jaw drop in awe. I wasn't sure how she was going to use the space (this was, you know, back before I became a sadistic evil bitch and _everything_ I built had curved walls), but she created the most perfect little gift shop inside (it is, in fact, way more adorable than the gift shop inside the actual dinosaurs I've visited- especially Dinny, it's what the interior of Dinny should be, but never has been). I strongly suggest you take the time out to read the signs to learn some about this period in history, before you walk through the curtain in the back to explore the dinosaur further.

If you've read the helpful information signs, you will know more about the dinosaurs that await you beyond the curtain, in their bright and colourful blacklight world. Toast Bard, of course, is also one of the brilliant minds behind the sim of Tableau, which is one of my favourite places in all of Second Life (although I always get a bit of a pang when they remodel- I'm far more likely to nest and choose to add more, rather than demolish the old to make way for the new), and is herself an amazing artist, both evinced by her skins, clothing, hair, and accessories in Fashionably Dead, and by her amazing paintings and other artwork. I have been trying to stay at least somewhat impartial in my tour of Starlustland, but it's true that while all of our family is amazing, both as artists and personally (as well as patient and understanding and insanely good sports with whatever we decide to pull on them), there are certain people with whom I have more of a personal affinity, for their style and the amazing things that they do- not to mention the fact that Toast Bard is one of the pioneers of SL, someone whose been creating content for a number of years and is in part responsible for SL growing into the world of beauty that it is today, both through things she herself has done, and simply through her example encouraging others to try and push harder to do more amazing things. Fashionably Dead also keeps a new release blog.

Area 408

When Mel and Stein decided to split Harold, Area 408 (known as Anchor City before, uh, its little problem), was what Mel decided to do for her half. Guerilla Gobo (of Heartattack & Vine, which just a couple of nights ago moved its mainstore to Horst) and Garbage Prototype (of Random Fashions, of which there is an outlet in the motel) are the geniuses who helped her make her vision a reality.

Area 408 is what remains of Anchor City after a bit of an altercation, shall we say, which kinda sorta had a little bit to do with giant bombs like the one in the playground. There was just a teeeeny tiny problem with impulse control. It's a distressed city with broken buildings to peek into to find hidden gems.

Some of those gems are above eyelevel- with a few shops being located in the second story, as well as other details that inspire walking around looking up, like a total tourist.

I fear that my pictures really don't do Area 408 justice- not that my pictures really do anywhere justice, but the true beauty of the sunlight peeking through the floating fallout is something I cannot share with you, as my poor pokey computer barely lets me turn settings up to be able to see much, and refuses to have anything to do with glow and other such fancy effects.

ZsaZsa's House of Beauty

ZsaZsa Withnail is Second Life's first public full time drag queen, and shares all sorts of fabulous accoutrements for your avatar at the giant bra on Horst, the first build on Horst to be finished and open to the public. It's also the third build of the bra- the first one was dreadfully boring and stodgy, so I came up with a better idea. The second...was...a tiny bit large maybe. As it took up more than 1/4 of the sim. (Yes, I do have Goldilocks syndrome.)

I was a bit intimidated trying to truly get across the beauty that is ZsaZsa's, thankfully Alayna Merlin arrived to acquire some more fantastic eyelashes, and graciously allowed me to act the part of the paparazzi.

ZsaZsa's is one stop shopping for being a drag queen in Second Life- wigs, eyelashes, skins, dresses, and accessories, all with an extra dose of fabulous.

ZsaZsa's House of Beauty is located on the shores of Horst, just over the sim line from Lloyd, next to Split Pea. ZsaZsa also has a new release blog with insights to the life of a drag queen.

Schadenfreude

Allegory Malaprop - I have been trying to write you epic love poems since that time we sat on the Thimbles roof for hours talking about Lost and other things but mostly we talked about Lost that night, I think. Sometimes I sit in the bathroom and I've come up with one or two lines, here and there. They never rhyme... I'm not great with rhyming epic poems.
I remember the very first time I'd ever been to Alle's store, Schadenfreude. At the time the plaza was called La Reina or La Riena or maybe the R was lower case. It's been a while. At any rate, the word schadenfreude has been one of my favorite, and one of my sister's favorite words for as long as I can remember. It means to take pleasure in the failure or tragedies of others.

I don't wear jewelery often in real or second lives... In fact very very rarely. And Alle's shop, when I first went there was mostly jewelry - but I kept going back, always always because I loved so much that someone else would use the word Schadenfreude and name their store it... and this person must be very interesting as well as intimidating and so began the hero worship I still feel for Allegory Malaprop. And then Kiki met Alle, and Kiki brought Alle to a night of standing around on the Thimbles roof, which was sort of a sandbox kind of set up for us. And then Alle and I got to talking... and hopefully you've read the other blog posts so you know how this all goes. I won't bore you with ramblings from my mind, where chunks are missing and I get dates wrong and could start talking about the sound of running tap water from upstairs that's been going on for an abnormally long time. Let me please, instead, talk about Alle's skills and creations and wonderful brilliant mind.

Alle's style, if I had to guess or describe what I believe it to be... stems from a love of darker, rich fantastical things in life. Perhaps Gothic, perhaps Steampunk... though she's explained to me what that is and I'm still not entirely clear on it. Her clothings range from simple perfect staples like pants and the notorious skelebeaters... which anyone from any sort of style background will appreciate for the skill involved in making them so perfectly textured, to unholy elaborate costumes for men and women. Trench coats, lolita dresses, gowns, and my favorite of all... The Tease corset ruffle bustle outfit with a top hat and feathers. Jesus I didn't take it off for at least two weeks. I sat there with my mouth open putting on all the attachments and layers and then switching color folders to try on all the colors. The detail work on every aspect of this outfit is a screaming example of Allegory's skill. And her dedication to presenting, quite literally, the absolute best that she can. You'll find this exact same level of perfection and beauty in every single item Alle makes for her shop or builds. It is just simply unbelievable and sometimes I wish that she were very small so that I might be able to lift her with my arms above my head and shout for the world to come and bask in the glow of Allegory Malaprop, for I see her as a humbleDeity looming around this amazing world we've created together. And now I will let some pictures speak for themselves... But I want to end with a sentimental note.

Allegory Malaprop - I want you to know how completely appreciative I am of your friendship. I know that I am a terrible writer... but the task of ever describing what you are capable of... is enormous. I think you're tops.

Pudge

Ah, the Pudgeburger. I set myself up for the pain that was the Pudgeburger because I offhand said "we could do something, like, food shaped, like a giant burger or something" when we were brainstoming ideas for the Neverdie expansion- Pudge had been in a very adorable cafe at Cubana, but as we had more room to play with, we wanted to keep the cafe idea, but give it a bit of a makeover in keeping with the ideas we had for expansion.

And Crystyle thought it was awesome. And then I thought about building it....and went "oh...shit." See, building a burger is easy. Building a burger with a door...somewhat less easy. Building a giant burger, with a door, with a very very limited number of megaprims? Therein lay my swearing. Neverdie and Lloyd were built up with the handful (ok, so it was a handful of something like 50, but that's still pretty lacking when you're talking everything from 11m to 512m+, on each of 3 sides) of megaprims floating about before the last viewer loophole that made the godsend of the SALT HUD possible. (If you build, you need that, trust me. It's even waaaay better than those boxes of 7000 megaprims floating around that were also created then.) To cut what's already a longer story than you're interested in shorter, what it came down to was that that burger, she taunted me, and required I learn a few new tricks to make things happen. And then, oh then I had to do it all over again, as the Pudgeburger was originally half the height it is now!

However, when it was all over, I've got to say...I love that burger, and think that burger is just dead perfect for Pudge. Pudge hair is fun and unusual, Pudge poses are wacky and a bit crazy (the pose on the Starlust Motel sign is a Pudge pose, and has been since the sign was created), and, well, with a name like Pudge, what is more fitting than a giant cheeseburger with bacon awning?

When Lloyd opened, Pudge was located on Lloyd, near the motel, in the vicinity of where the ~silentsparrow~ birdhouse currently resides. However, when Floyd came along, the burger moved on over to the Boardwalk, where it could expand into a little discount fry building, and sit on the edge offering tasty wares to passers by (not to mention fishers), assuming they were brave enough to fight off the seagulls. There's also a drive through you can attempt to navigate if you rent a Bispa, and you can pick up some yummy Pudgeburgers and a Pudge Soda to wash it down while you're visiting.

Pudge is located on one end of the Baconlust Boardwalk, on the west coast of Floyd, not far from Thimbles. Pudge also keeps a new release blog.

Ki-Squared

Kiki Cunningham of Ki-Squared is the reason I have gotten to be a part of the amazing project that is the Starlust (also she's got one of the cleverest names for her shop ever). I randomly met her one night, when I went to visit Caribe, and she and her friend struck up a conversation with me. I don't recall much of the conversation itself really, although there was something about extreme librarianism in there.

I'm not a very social person (in fact, I'm now and again the poster child for social anxiety disorder and tend to be a bit of a hermit...which you may not have guessed with how much I've been nattering on in blogging lately), and I don't think I'm all that easy to become friends with- to get me out of my shell requires the right topics of conversation, and the stars aligning properly (and even then, I tend to hide out from friends too often, not because I don't want to talk to them, but because I don't want to bother them- I rarely start conversations just to say hi). Kiki and Mr. Nosferatu though, they got me on a good night, and started up the right conversation, and Kiki later also introduced me to more of her friends, at which point it just all headed in the direction that eventually became our little wonderland.

Kiki had a motel room in the first Starlust in Cubana, a couple of doors down from mine (I wish I had more pictures of the first Starlust, but I don't tend to take pictures unless I have a reason- with how much SL hangs at best, and crashes at worst, when I take snaps). When we moved to Neverdie, she decided she wanted a mine, and dug out a great pit of a store with rocks above- when we moved to Lloyd she dug out another pit. And then she put vendors up. And then we continued to terraform around the sim. And her vendors started getting returned to her, because even terraforming on the opposite corner of the sim, somehow, kept changing her mine just enough that things got buried. After ages of frustration (and some language that would make a sailor blush), the mine became above ground, with the walls being a bit of terrain and a lot of sculpts that wouldn't decide to undulate everything back to her.

Ki2 is filled with a bit of everything a girl could want- there are sensible clothes (and not so sensible clothes!), sculpted shoes, hair, jewelry...plus there's a weekly mystery dollarbie. Sometimes it's an extra colour of the release that week, sometimes it's something entirely different. Ki-Squared is located behind the leg of the motel towards Floyd, on Lloyd, next to the Fashionably Dead dinosaur. She also keeps a new release blog.

Herman Melville

The fifth of our little cluster of sims is a bit different from the rest, a homestead sim that, while part of our little family, is Quinlan Quimby's domain. The whale shaped island of Herman Melville, with its colourful treehouse of awesome, serves as the mainstore of TOSL.

TOSL (Tree & Ocean SL) is a strange little wonderland of all sorts of goodies, including an assortment of foodstuffs to feed your poor starved avatar.

Up in the treehouse is a selection of cute clothes, including some very ambitious sculpted items. Down below, there are assorted things for the house (the dog lamps are adorable).

Dogtown

Dogtown has a lot to do with why the Starlust Motel never opened on Neverdie. When the Starlust was expanding, Apatia ran off and found this sim with two large plots of land for sale (buying one...and then I think she may have waited a whole two hours before grabbing the other), making an L shape around a corner (a bit larger than a quarter of the sim) that was taken by a sex therapy castle...or something. We never did attend a session, we just peeked in and visited the hidden dungeon. It was a pretty posh castle though, and had some lovely grounds.

However, we spent our time building the new Starlust (the motel had its back broken to turn the other way at Neverdie- it was at the corner of the L, against the mountain separating us, as well as getting the second story and expanding in size), and before we got around to be ready for an opening (partly, I freely admit, due to me! I can be slow building at times), we started having a lot more interest in people joining us, starting to outstrip our ability to fill in that space, as well as Dogtown becoming homeless. Thus, it was decided, that we would instead move to a full sim, with Dogtown taking up the sexcastle corner. It was a bit of a rush moving in, as I recall, as we wanted to try to open soon!

Marsellus, the owner of Dogtown, eventually became unable to spend as much time in SL, and passed Dogtown to Stein. She started expanding Dogtown a little in that corner, shoving a few more builds in where she could, but it was obvious that she needed more space to go much further. Melatonin and Stein decided that the perfect solution to this, as well as other factors that all coalesced at once, was to split a sim- thus was Harold born (well, envisioned, he was a hard birth that one, showed up almost a week late, with a great deal of fighting. He knew he was so anticipated, he wanted to make us wait).

About a quarter of Harold, around half of Stein's half, is new Dogtown. It's a bit wilder build now, more colourful (and don't forget to pet the gators), and has grown to take up a bit of dry land, as well as the floating sections.

Horst von Starlustinberg State Penn

The prison overlooking Horst is the brainchild of Melatonin Hax, and is in fact part of the reason Horst came to be. We didn't have room for anything of any decent size on Lloyd or Floyd- although he did also serve the purpose of some extra space for some of the other things that were lined up, like the mainstores for Tres Blah and Hiccup (which is another story entirely).

The prison moved around Horst a bit while it was still in the process of being constructed (it started on the island Vintage and the drive in now inhabit), finally settling on that tall hill, overlooking Horst and Harold. I was a bit burnt out and needed a break (sim building is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work! And Horst followed not long after Floyd opened up, Floyd himself being in the planning stages right after Lloyd opened up), so I didn't have much to do with the prison. Gobo Guerilla, of Heartattack & Vine (which has an outlet in the Starlust Motel), and flopsie MacArdle, of Smersh (which resides in the big concrete duck on Lloyd, towards Herman Melville from the motel lobby), helped Mel bring her vision to life. Both of them excel at the grittier builds that befit the prison (whereas I'd be more likely to paint it pink and put a rabbit head on it...although I did have nothing to do with the giant ball gag that was draped on the prison before it opened).

In some ways, it's more fun exploring a place you don't know so intimately, although I did still get to peek in periodically to be amazed by the progress.

And at Christmas, flopsie and Mel trusted me to drive a toboggan off the top of the guard tower. They're pretty foolish, aren't they?

Thimbles

Thimbles means a lot to the Starlust- for without Thimbles, there would be no Starlust. The new plot in Cubana, aside from being a bigger area to be able to play with and have more shops as well, was Thimbles' new mainstore. The Thimbles girls, Melatonin Hax and Apatia Hammerer, had had their mainstore on a little sliver of mainland (I have never made the plunge into land ownership myself- I've considered it, but the tier thing is a bastard), and the Starlust Motel happened when they decided they needed more space.

These girls are madly prolific (they don't even bother to announce new releases most of the time because they'd be spamming constantly!), and create fabulous wardrobe staples- perfect fun floofy dresses, all sorts of tops and pants and accessories (the scarves!), and the plaid, oh the plaid. Thimbles is my "comfort food" when it comes to clothing. I built the Starlust Motel in Cubana largely in a Thimbles hoodie, with plain black pants and my mohawk pulled back in a ponytail (and socks, without shoes most of the time).

Thimbles is also the building that's gone through the most incarnations- at Cubana it was the big yellow brick lobby with the huge awning. At Neverdie (which never saw an opening), it was a huge truck stop, with a giant round staircase entry. The first Thimbles on Lloyd was the two round domes, which were demolished to make way for a tower, which is turn was demolished when Thimbles moved to Floyd, in the huge pair of Thimbles (which might actually stick around for a bit! Although I expect the basement will fall prey to their desire to remodel, at least).

I have made it a hobby to park Curio Obscura Oui Coupes on top of most of the later incarnations of Thimbles- getting up to the top of the notboobs and managing to stop without overshooting was a challenge (so is getting up that ramp in the new one! But then, so is walking up it, which I dearly enjoy as I get dizzy and fall down repeatedly). (Sadly I haven't made a hobby of taking pictures once I DO get parked, and I leave my cars unlocked for people to drive around the sims.)

Thimbles currently resides in a pair of thimbles, with a huge flooded basement below, nestled in a corner of Floyd, behind the boardwalk and the Pudgeburger, in the shadow of Mount Lolita, covered in flowers. The biggest thimble holds the newest releases, the smaller thimble holds the slightly older but still rather new releases, and the basement entered from the stairs in the small thimble contains yet older stuff. They also keep a new release blog, but lots of things don't actually make it into it!

The Starlust Motel

I know, we're being mushy today. But it's the one year anniversary, and that gets you all teary eyed.

My name is Allegory Malaprop, and I'll be your tourguide to Starlustland for a bit.

Once upon a time, there was a group of girls who had a dream. A dream to create a strange offbeat little shopping area that wasn't quite your typical mall. A strange little motel, a bit rundown and out of the way, in which we could hawk our wares and have a fun little place to hang out. Thus, the Starlust Motel was born.

I was astoundingly lucky, and met this group by chance shortly before this all got started (through a chance meeting with the unpictured Kiki, I ended up running into her and she started up a conversation and we stood around talking for hours that first night, and the rest is history), and when offered the chance to do some building for it, I jumped at it. Building spaces was something that really appeals to me in this world of ours, and the stars aligned just right for me to be a part of something amazing.

One year ago today, the Starlust Motel opened in a little sliver of a sim named Cubana, after a while of building (and swearing) and texturing (and swearing) and setting up (and swearing). At the time, it was just a little one story motel with Bagley, La Sylphide, Amplify, SD Wears, GG Couture, Ki-Squared, HotBox, and Schadenfreude. Thimbles' new mainstore was in a big two story lobby on one end, Pudge was in a cafe on the other, and Violet Voltaire was in the same little violet traingle building she still inhabits. We had a weird selection of neighbors: this large Italian mall behind us, a German furry enclave to one side, and an open area of sea that had been occupied by a castle (before she decided that we looked far too scary and ran away). Apatia mentioned her a bit more- we really did love Lolita.

We've come a long way! Currently the motel is occupied by:

Room 17: Draconic Kiss, with a selection of goth, lolita, and historical clothing, and skins
Room 23: Balderdash, with exquisitely detailed delicate jewelry
Room 26: La Sylphide, with gorgeous skins
Room 77: Long Awkward Pose, with a diverse selection of poses
Room 32: So Many Styles, with bright and fun womenswear
Room 33: lamb, with beautiful sculpted hair
Room 39: Periquita, with fun colourful shoes (there's an outlet with discounted shoes towards the rocking horse! Look for the quicksand!)

Thimbles, Pudge, Ki2, Violet Voltaire, and Schadenfreude occupy other builds in greater Starlustland. We were sad to see Hotbox's shapes close, leaving the motel last month, however Stein has moved on to focusing on other enterprises in Starlustland, including moving to prefabs of buildings like those she has created around the sims.

Dear Renters of, and anyone who's ever been to The Starlust Motel (except those of you who've rezzed... looked around and thought "ugh" and left).

It's an entire year - today - since we cut the tape and cheese and clicked the settings to make The Starlust Motel public. Allow me please to ramble and be all wistful and sentimental and foolish while I type here. Get yourself some coffee and/or potato salad because unless our respective attention spans give out... we both might be here a while. Except of course I had to go take the dog out. I'm back now, and I've completely lost my train of thought. Also I have a headache. Also it's not actually today for me... I'm writing this on Thursday night... did I just blow your mind? No? Yes?
I think it was sometime in 2007, late 2007... very late 2007, in fact probably 2008... but Anyways. I think it was then that the idea that eventually morphed into Starlustland was born. It was in a conversation that kind of went something like "Hey, I wish there was a way to put your junk with my junk. Then maybe if people come because they like my junk... they'll see your junk and maybe like your junk too." And lo... the idea was birthed from the addled recesses of our minds. We went looking for land. We didn't know our heads from our butts about buying land in world. That land on Cubana... the plot next to the "German Yiff Paradise" and across from what we tenderly referred to as "Mount Lolita"... the parcel that Lolita the Gor Sex Princesslave had her castle and sex dungeon on... but had banned us from... ignorant that we could *totally* cam in and appreciate her art choices and sex machines from our plot, until she terraformed her entire parcel into a sort of mountain and plopped her castle on top so we couldn't cam in from the ground, no we had to fly up to be perverted peeping Toms, and we so did... Anyways. That was the most awesome thing ever. That parcel of land that was ours and we could put out as many blow up dolls and prims as we wanted (until we hit 2k, of course). And we did put out prims and blow up dolls. It was a lot of trial and error. Trial on Allegory's part. Error on mine. And a LOT of laughing.
And then The Starlust Motel on Cubana opened. And it was crazy. Stein had gotten Lolita's parcel after she put it up for sale in what I like to think was a self righteously incensed fit of Gorpower... Though dunno, she could have been ordered to. We had to move our skybox over to that parcel because we were rapidly eating up those 2k prims. Cubana was about to burst. It simply could not contain the force but we couldn't afford anything bigger and we started a fundraiser. Good god that was touching, I think we were all humbled and surprised at how much was donated to the Starlust Expansion fund. I'm not sure if it was ever mentioned publicly... but to those of you who donated to that - Thank you. You will never know how much it was appreciated. We were able to buy the land on Neverdie (which was also next door to a pre-existing sex dungeon castle, a rather nice one at that).

There is a chunk here missing about Lloyd and memories between here and there and what Starlust has kind of grown up into... It's late and I will save my ramblings on Lloyd, Floyd, Horst, Herman Melville and the new and gorgeous Harold... for another day.

"Hey... what about..." and "Holy shit I spit coffee" are probably the most over used sentence starters if you were to go through chat logs and tally them up.
I have a pretty shoddy memory sometimes. I wouldn't call these last few years of my real life sparkling wonderful times... and my brain tends to try to smoove badness over like a blur brush in photoshop. We're all going to remember the early days of Starlust a little differently, or remember more or less things than the other person. But it's been something we've all done together in one way or another. And that was the goal, mission: accomplished (i hope).

Peace at last

The unicorn war has been heated, and spilled far beyond the borders of Starlustland, as people all over SL have chosen sides.

However, we do have peace at last. It was...uh...sort of my fault. Er, sorry. Who knew pregnant unicorn hormones turned you into a ticking glitter timebomb, waiting to go off? The glitter critical mass was so serious that it wiped out almost all of the unicorns, _and_ their opposition, from all of Starlustland.

There are a few survivors from the fallout, the alicorn over the Floyd rainbow came out almost entirely unscathed, and the horny seaponies still populate the 7Seas fishing in the waters of Lloyd and Floyd, I suppose the seawater protected them from the blast. For these remaining refugees, and in memory of love and glitter everywhere, I respectfully request that both sides please set aside their animosity, and kiss and make up as we did (also, some making out and there was the slapping, but I mean, I guess those are optional?)

We learned some important lessons from the war: some people don't like unicorns, some people don't like sex, some people think glitter in private areas is very uncomfortable, some people prefer their unicorn sex set off in a private corner, and some people prefer leprechauns and latex.

I have no idea what happened to all that glitter. I have to wonder if it really just dissipated, or if, somehow, we haven't quite seen the end of the fallout yet...

The unicorns are here!

You may have heard about the battle raging at Sparkle Village (previously known as the Starlust Motel). The virtuous pro unicorn forces (led by myself and General Apatia Hammerer) are pitched in battle against the dire forces of the anticorns (led by Stein Shilova and Melatonin Hax...although Melatonin has voiced her affection to unicorns to me privately, it's all just peer pressure from Stein. The anticornal forces are crumbling from within, soon the unicorns shall prevail!)

The anticorns have been defacing the sims with signs and graffiti, because they oppose all that is pure and beautiful in the world. The pro unicorn forces have let the unicorns run free through the sims of Lloyd, Floyd, and Horst, free to bring happiness and love to all who visit our Unicorn Sex sims.

The hoofies, hands and feet, are from Lazy Places, which has a location on the anti unicorn sim of Harold- but we know they are really on our side, and have been swept up in the anticorn sim through no fault of their own)

The sea unicorns floating around me are fishing prizes that can be obtained from fishing on Lloyd and Floyd, and the rainbow mohawk I'm wearing is by Helena String of the Stringer Shrine and Mausoleum, in her show of unicorn solidarity. Nivaya's horn is from Illusions, and her hoofies are Lazy Places, exclusive to their Axis Mundi location. Achaiya and I are both wearing the new ~silentsparrow~ vest, aesthete)

Katat0nik has come out in support of the unicorn forces, and you can see the fantastic Making Memories dress here, modeled by Subversive Writer. Adaire DeCuir also wrote a feature on Sparkle Village on the katat0nik blog, and it should give you some idea of the magic of the new Sparkle Village.

You can see here how shabby the sim of Harold is, tarnished and without the magic that unicorns bring. It's very sad. This is why the fight for the unicorns is so important.

All is not lost on Harold though! Clawtooth by Clawtooth, overlooking Dogtown, is surrounded by a group of unicorns in tiaras, doing their best to stand against the anticorns!

There are SO many vendors involved and so many great items to collect once you've found all the pieces of the broken heart that are strewn about the sims.
If you haven't tried your hand at the hunt yet, here's what you do:

Go to the Starlust Motel lobby - Click the sign to receive the HUD and wear it - then search for 14 red pieces of a broken heart that are placed around Lloyd, Floyd, Horst and Herman Melville sims. Each piece of the heart has a clue for where to find the next piece. If you're having trouble with a clue, don't hesitate to ask the I <3 Starlust update group - it's a wonderful group full of amazing people and everyone's been overwhelmingly helpful and supportive!
As you collect the heart pieces on the ground - pieces will automatically show up on your hud and once you've got a filled heart you can go around to the shops of each participating vendor and collect their gifts. There is also a notecard in the lobby with direct TP's to each participating vendor store!

** There is a glitch with the HUD that we were unaware of - if you crash while hunting for the pieces it will not save your progress, this is frustrating BUT if you detach and then RE-attach... it *will* save your progress. And it's all so worth it - and we apologize for the error but really it's totally worth it and we wouldn't be starlust if we weren't just a little bit of a pain in your ass.

Welcome to the very first part of a multi-post series we're tentatively calling "Hey, What's new at Starlust?"

Well, we're so glad you asked!

A little while ago VintageWear moved out of Room 7 to a main store location on Horst. Luckily Katat0nik Pigeon swooped in to fill up the empty walls. Effectively giving me and Alle another great setting to fake beat each other up in. (Poses by Snooky's Poses) Katat0nik has drop dead gorgeous dresses and outfits and I just remembered I forgot to attach the f'king adorable prim cat she sells when we posed for this picture. Dammit... go get that cat and see, it's f'king adorable.

Next up - You may have noticed at one point that we renovated Mount Lolita on Floyd. The mountainy area that was home to many giant flowers that were home to many spectacular shops. Well, now there are even more... plus wheelbarrows. Plus watering cans and mushrooms and barns and oh my! Picnic has joined us up on Mount Lolita. I'd fallen in love with their products long ago when exploring a sim I can't for the life of me remember the name of and just crashed out of SL so can't even investigate landmarks for the sake of being proper in this post. Sorry. BUT! I did fall in love and I'm so glad to have them join us!

Picnic has beautifully textured garden and home decor. Ethereal hanging lights and trees. Antique tables and chairs for you to sit your fake butt on while you appreciate your ethereal lights and trees. There is a poetic sense of whimsy and loss to their products and environments created with their products. Something I am deeply attracted to in both lives.

Mmmmm PDA poses at Dogtown

I love poses. I just love them. I didn't know how badly my addiction to poses was going to get when I first walked into Dove's shop [LAP]... back when I was SLyounger. And I should have. I just should have.
Now one of the things I absolutely look forward to most when creating ads or doing any sort of picture is flipping through myriad pose animator thingies in the skybox - and I clapped my hands with excitement when Izzy Bereznyak started throwing his poses at me. More so than clap I threw my hands in the air and said "Thank YOU (insert your own religious deity here)!" when Izzy told me he was opening a shop at Dogtown.
And now that shop is open - PDA. This is a smattering of my favorite *favorite* poses from pda.

The other day Mr. Carver (Meat) imed me about adding some new products to his shop DEVO, on Floyd (you can go there immediately by clicking this: This In fact you shouldn't even bother reading this... just go now and then be surprised by what's new. Live on the seat of your pants and stuff, you're a tiger.

His new products are the DEVO Scythe - "This sculpted Scythe can be thrown across an
entire sim and always lodges directly into its target."
Which is, you have to admit... flipping great - but then there's the DEVO ORKO - "The ultimate Orko pack! Includes scuplted avatar with magical pulse effects, an animated doll you
can nurse, a pet that rides on your shoulder and an army that flies around your head."
You maybe weren't as into He-Man as much as my sister was... but really that's also something you will have to admit was sorely lacking from SL... now it's here. Buy it.

Most impressively/amazingly to me, though, is the DEVO Paint.

Mr. Carver has put out a Demo of the DEVO paint in front of his shop, so you can try before you buy. And I think after you try you might well buy... because if you don't someone you know will and then you'll end up feeling like you would have gotten the credit had you bought it first... you already knew how flipping awesome it was... but you just couldn't spare the pocket change to buy it... and now you're just not as hip and awesome as your friend is. That's kind of tragic.

DEVO Paint - "This Paint board allows you to paint your own permanent art pieces in Secondlife
Your artwork can be saved as a texture, added to an online gallery and also saved to prims
that can then be used to reload your painting back onto the board, or simply hung up on the

Yes - It's that motherflipping awesome, creative, inventive and you must have it.

Friends and Family Event

Speaking on behalf of Floyd (as I often do - pretty raunchily while drunk...) I'd like to extend a gigantic welcome to Tenshi Vielle and Iris Seale to the Starlustland Family! We've redone Mount Lolita on Floyd and they've graciously pwned the big red barn shop space there combining Punch Drunk, [CRAP] and [Boutique] and Fawn Fotherington Hair.
They're holding an event this Saturday and Sunday called the Friends and Family Event. This is the information from the notecard -

Friends and Family Event redemption instructions:

- Make a purchase at any of the participating stores' in world locations
- Select an item of equal or lesser value
- Create a notecard entitled "Friends and Family - " with ALL the following information:
1. Transaction information of your purchase including transaction number, date, and amount
2. The name of the item of equal or lesser value you've selected to gift
3. The full name of the avatar you wish to gift the item to.
- Drop the notecard on the store owner:

IRKMADE: lifestyles and leisure products

So it’s pretty hard for me to write a blog entry about irkmade without wanting to give you the designer’s resume. Hap Underwood’s background is god damn impressive. Let’s just say if his resume were a ménage à trios … it would include a frog, SIM-like avatars and a giant talking mouse! Oh yeah. It would be the shit.

Hap and I met ages ago and got on like a house on fire. He’s been on Polly Jean since the beginning: dedicated and true! You totally need to check his shop out, it’s the giant TIKI shelf at the far end. All of his animations are finely crafted from blue-eyed babies and the program MAYA. Check it…

Here we have the irkmade Absynth Glass (500L - 7 prims). The animation on this glass is gorgeously smooth and will give you flashback like no other. There is an optional FREE fairy wings starter kit to really get your goose cookin.

Next is the irkmade Mr. Moon (1200L - 6 prims). Mr. Moon, himself, is just ONE prim and includes 4 animated poses. (The sixth prim is a shadow, just fyi.) As usual, Hap steals the show with design originality. The sculptie is well crafted and is perfect for close ups and SL photography.
